Carolyn "CJ" Jacinto
XOXmas Monday November 5th, 2007
6:00 pm - Pacific Time
One of only 25 Certified Business
Consultants, an education specialist, eBay Trading Assistant and
Powerseller, Carolyn Jacinto, better known as CJ, is
considered one of the premier teachers of eBay. Having left a 32
year career in the traditional world of retail back in 2001, CJ
became a Powerseller within a few short months, and has been earning a
living on eBay for the past six years. She says
"It seems more like a hobby than work, and the reward is never
having to get up and drive into work again!" She is ready
to share her knowledge with those who would like to learn.
Read
about CJ's eBay experience and knowledge in the July 2007 issue of
Image Magazine. Debbie Sklar writes about CJ in a feature story
"Business Online 101- Learn How to buy and sell on the net from
an expert". Learning the ropes on the net, keeping safe,
and making it work for you, are all parts of education you can get her
eBay classes.
CJ started as a part time temporary
clerk at the Canoga Park Zody's Discount Department Store on
Friday the 13th of December 1968. That temporary job evolved
into a 16 year career there, spending the first 9 years in the stores
as a clerk, department manager, and assistant store manager.
Loving retail, buying and selling, she worked her way up the ladder
into the corporate office later becoming the first ever female
seasonal Buyer. Later moving to the home improvement retail side
of the business, CJ spent the next 16 years climbing up the ladder a
litte further, finally becoming a vice president of Inventory
Management, planning and teaching others how to buy just enough, just
when it's needed. That bug for striving to reach new and higher
levels got under her skin, and then sharing what you just learned with
those who want to learn is the icing on the cake.
In 2001, CJ's whole world changed.
Just as it did for so many others that year. She decided to
leave the traditional world of retailing and start her own business
online. eBay seemed like just the answer. Within a few
short months she was a powerseller, and each month business was
increasing at a double didget rate. Not knowing just what
she wanted to sell, she just started selling junk. Or should we
say garage sale treasures. They were flying out of the door.
One man's (or woman's) junk is another man's collectible treasure.
The fun of the hunt, and the joy of the sale became addicting.
When eBay rolled out their Trading Assistant program, CJ became one of
the first eBay Trading Assistants. Now she was selling her
treasures, and the treasures of neighbors and newly found online
friends. The first call she got was from a gentlemen to sell his
prized Rolex watch...it took awhile...but it it sold for $72,000.00!
As the word of mouth spread, and
CJ's business kept growing, She was contacted to sell Anastacia
Newkirk's stage clothing on eBay, with much of the sale going
directly to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. While many
american's may not know exactly who Anastacia is, she is quite famous
in europe, and the auctions were a hit from October of 2006 to April
of 2007. CJ even received a special award from Anastacia's fan
club, The 2007 Anastacia Fanily Award. The fan club is anxious
for CJ to begin a new round of auctions for Anastacia this fall or
winter.
CJ
and the XOXmas group has attended every eBay Live since they began
in 2002. The yearly 3 day event is chocked full of valuable
information and education. Having just attended one is like
getting your masters in eBay. Having attending all 6 was a dream
come true for CJ. After attending the first in Anaheim, she
vowed she would never miss another one.
CJ became an Education
Specialist in 2005. She has the best time teaching others
about what is her personal passion, buying and selling on eBay.
Teaching classes in San Clemente, or at your location, CJ is qualified
to teach The Basics of Buying on eBay, The Basics of Selling on
eBay, eBay Stores 101,and Beyond the Basics. Private
instruction, or business consultation is also available and tailored
to the individual needs of the student or business.
You wont be disappointed! Her
classes are full of information, fun and enjoyable. You will
leave with a can do attitude, and the tools to get it done!

Are you new to eBay? Maybe you’ve been buying
and now you are ready to learn how to sell on eBay. In "The
Basics of eBay Selling" class they share with you many tips and
tricks learned along the way as Platinum PowerSellers, Trading
Assistants, and Education Specialists. They show you step-by-step how
to sell some of your "stuff" on eBay collected over the
years as well as selling for other people (Trading Assistant) and
share many of their own personal eBay experiences, failures and
frustrations.
Like many early eBay users it was word of mouth that led Michael Kaiser to eBay for the
first time.In the summer of 1997 a friend told him about the incredible deals
she was finding on an internet auction site called eBay. Michael became so
obsessed with eBay that in 1999 he co-authored, with his wife, Laura Fisher
Kaiser, The Official eBay Guide to
Buying, Selling and Collecting Just About Anything, (Fireside Press,
Simon and Shuster, 1999).Michael
began instructing at eBay University in the spring of 2002, and has trained
over 8,000 users on building an eBay business. Michael believes to be
successful at eBay you need to participate fully in the community. When he
is not selling art glass, books, and other antiques and collectibles, he
will probably be found buying everything from laptops and espresso machines
to vacuum cleaner bags and plants for his garden.
Michael also has a day job as Director of Program
Development and Strategic Alliances at the National Center for Victims of
Crime, where their mission is to forge a national commitment to help crime
victims rebuild their lives.

Marlene has been an active member of the eBay community since 2004. She was immediately drawn into the excitement of the auction when she began to sell the many antiques and collectibles she had inherited. Within the first few months of selling she received an invitation to join the PowerSeller ranks - even before she knew what a PowerSeller was!
In 2005 Marlene met the requirements to become an ‘Education Specialist Trained by eBay’ giving her the ability to share her passion with others by teaching the official eBay University curriculum. In 2007 Marlene became an ‘eBay Certified Business Consultant’ – one of only 28 people in the world to achieve this distinction.
After an article was written in the local newspaper (The Suffield Observer) about her Trading Assistant business, Marlene became known as the ‘Hometown eBay Expert’. She was also recently featured in an article on the Norwich (CT) Bulletin website
(http://avenuestosold.blogspot.com/2008/01/learn-how-to-sell-on-ebay-with-local.html) She is currently a mentor in the Education Specialist program and recently became a mentor on the DOUA site (Disabled Online Users Association –
www.DOUA.org).
Marlene teaches eBay classes for a variety of organizations in CT, MA & VT including Adult Education programs, Parks & Recreation Depts., Senior Centers, Community Centers, Libraries and Community Colleges. Students can register for group classes or schedule a private class for more personalized instruction.
Marlene also offers Training and Consultation Services for individuals and businesses looking to use the eBay platform to expand their market, increase distribution channels or develop an online presence. She works with start-up & home-based businesses as well as brick and mortar stores, distributors & liquidators. Having been a PowerSeller and a Trading Assistant, her wealth of on-the-job experience allows her to customize these trainings to meet the client’s specific eBay interests and needs.
Enhancing her eBay training and consulting services, Marlene maintains a relationship with a professional organizer and several Trading Assistants with varying specialties so she provide a range of services to those who contact her for assistance with eBay.
While eBay is large part of Marlene’s life, her non-eBay activities and interests help create a balance. Marlene has been actively involved in her town for many years. She has been on the board of a community service group, a founding member of the town’s first newspaper, a columnist for that newspaper and founder of the town’s popular, annual Canine Contest. As mother of a ‘differently-abled’ child Marlene has become a strong advocate for her daughter and others with disabilities.
Marlene has a BA in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Her work experience includes a long-term position as the Director of Continuing Medical Education Programs in the Psychiatry Department of a university medical school, a museum tour guide, an entrepreneur and a family therapist. These varied employment opportunities have given Marlene experience with networking, public speaking, advertising, branding and marketing – all skills that she utilizes today in the eBay world. Her ability to build a rapport with people, which was cultivated as a therapist, now serves her well as an instructor and consultant.
When I discovered eBay in 1997, I was working
as a corporate computer trainer and troubleshooter. I was thrilled to find
eBay, then a small auction site with a few categories.
I soon discovered I could find treasures I used to travel far and wide to
find from my home computer. Like many people who start out buying, one day
(after a year) it hit me... "Hey, if other people are selling on eBay,
why I can't I?"
I started selling on eBay in 1998 during the beanie baby boom. I've watched
with amazement at how this once obscure Internet site has grown into the
giant company it is today.
Prior to eBay University, I wrote three courses on eBay and conducted online
classes for an Internet distance learning school. I've also worked with
businesses and achieved PowerSeller status for them.
I teach small hands-on classes, larger classes in College Computer-labs and
also offer private lessons and consultations.
I have a BA in Philosophy, Certificate Degrees in Telecommunications
Analysis, Internet Technologies and Web Development.
