Markdown Manager:

EBay launched a new tool for store sellers last week called Markdown Manager. It adds excitement to the fixed price platform. Now, just like our bricks and mortar counterparts we store sellers can have sales. These sales stand out in the search category for browsers and can be easily added to the promotion boxes. Markdowns & sales make great newsletter promotions. Don’t forget the possibility of using these sales as potential press releases and advertising them to your target audience.

One thought I had was an old fashioned mail, possibly a ‘free’ vista print post card to past customers.

For those of you who haven’t used it yet here is a brief tutorial.

To access Markdown Manager log into your store.

Look on under “Item Promotion” for the link to Markdown Manager.

Once you click on the Markdown Manager this page comes up.

Click on the Create Sale button

The Create Sale Page allows you to Name The Sale, Choose: Start & End Date.

You can choose a discount percent or deduct a specific amount of the item(s)

You can choose a store category to “markdown” or individual items.

In the same below I choose to mark down a specific item.

To select specific items – choose the items by checking off the items you want included in the sale in the check box on the left side of the screen (by the thumbnail photo).

Once you select the items the markdown manager brings you back to the “Create A Sale Page”

To add price and review the items.

Note – you will be able to confirm the items are included because the # of listings will be shown in the line above “select a category” area.

AFTER THE SALE GOES LIVE:

The items display in your store list view as above. It displays in a similar fashion in the listings on the regular search categories – where they show up. * If it is a fixed price item or if the search brings back less than 20 auction items.

Inside the listing the display will show the percent off. Also, note the “Sale Ends Today” Markdown manager starts counting down days till the sale is over starting when there are 7 or fewer days left.

One final note. I was surprised to get a note from eBay’s file exchange. At first I thought maybe it was a spoof or someone hacked into my account. But, it turns out the sale items are created through file exchange and you will receive a confirmation email that looks similar to the one below when the sale goes live.

Tips From Carol:

Several people yesterday mentioned that they don't get ebay's announcements automatically.  Here's ebay's explanation of how to sign up:

If you know of anyone else who you think would like to receive our announcements in email form, please have them go to the Announcement Board Group in the Community section of eBay. They can get there by:

1) Going to www.ebay.com

2) Clicking on Community in the top header

3) Clicking on "Groups" underneath the "Connect" heading

4) Going to the "News and Events" heading and clicking on the "Announcements" link.

5) Clicking "eBay Announcements" on the next page From this page, just click "Join Group" on the right-hand side, and you're all set!
