A QUICK NOTE BEFORE WE START - IF YOU CAN'T SEE PHOTOS - THIS NEWSLETTER IS AVAILABLE ONLINE AT www.clovercitysells.com/feb09-news-2.htm

This week I received one of those dreaded VeRO violation emails from eBay. Yuck, do I feel like a villain :(

The violation stated that a Verified Rights Owner claimed I used either their description content or photos. To be honest, I was befuddled -  the listing did have a photo that was not taken by me, but I was authorized to use it -and the item specifics on this product is pretty much the same, no matter who sells them - I'm sure I used information authorized and provided by my supplier.... so, while eBay won't tell me what I did wrong - I can (and did) contact the VeRO owner. He has 5 working days to respond to my question.. meanwhile I'm still uncertain about what I did wrong. However, he doesn't have to prove a thing to eBay. Once a VeRO owner files, eBay take down the listing, no questions asked. So that leaves me vulnerable to have my listings shut down again and again... because he is registered as a VeRO owner.

That was a wake up call to me. Not, that I spend much time policing the site for people using my photos or descriptions. That seems like waste of my precious time. I do have Google alerts out for my products and would be all over it if someone tried to steal them. The issue here is, that if I don't put out more effort and make it appear as if I am protecting my copyrights I may loose my ability to use materials that are rightfully mine to use. Someone else, who has already registered as a VeRO owner on eBay and is out to cause a competitor grief could easily have any of my listings pulled.

I hate bullies. So instead of continuing to lick my wounds and feeling sorry for myself I took matters into my own hands. I read up on my rights as the recipient of the claim - here are a couple of good articles - you should bookmark.

How eBay Protects Intellectual Property (VeRO)

I'll be filing a countersuit if he doesn't respond in five working days.

And, I decided to register as a VeRO owner myself. So, I opened a new eBay Account and created the required "About Me" page. Then I sent an email to the eBay VeRO team to be listed in the VeRO directory. I'm waiting for their reply/confirmation. You can do the same, more information about VeRO About Me pages here.

My advice to you, if you import or create products to sell online, or are the exclusive retailer for a product you may want to do the same.

I'll let you know how it all unfolds.

Do You Want To Learn Where To Buy Products Wholesale?

Just a quick reminder, if you haven't had a chance to weigh in please let us know if you'd like to have a Puget Sound area class on How to Find Products To Sell - please head on over and vote. If you missed the announcement, here's the link for more information.

Briefly, here's the deal. Before we go any farther in planning the class I'm throwing this question out to my Puget Sound Area readers, or anyone who wants to travel to the Seattle area. Would you sign up for a product sourcing class?

Date: Monday April 6th. If we get enough yeses, I'll book the room and set up a place to for you to buy tickets.

Because CJ will have to take time off and will need to book a hotel room - (I'd love her and her partner MJ to stay with me - but cat and dog allergies prevent it) and I'll have to pay to book the room and we'll have a few other expenses - the tuition will be around $80.00 to $100.00 per person, depending on how much interest there is. So, please factor that in as well.

Please help us determine if there is enough interest by taking two seconds to click on this link and answer two questions "yes" or "no" at survey monkey.

In this webinar I'll give you pointers on how to get accepted, not rejected. I've also got a big surprise bonus announcement for those on the line. You'll want to be there!

When: Monday, February 9th
Time: Noon - Pacific Standard

During eBay Live, I asked as many sellers as possible to give me their favorite marketing tip. Over the next several weeks I'll let them tell you, in their words, their favorite eBay marketing tip. Watch my blog, YouTube, Twitter, or your email inbox for the latest video.

This week M.J. Goldman from XoXmas joins the fun and talks about the importance of eBay Live! (I have to agree! I'm going to miss it this year).

Amazon Fulfillment (FBA) video

I just read a ChannelAdvisor White Paper that had some very interesting facts about buyer habits. One thing that popped out at me was this figure: 93% of online shoppers are Amazon buyers. If you wonder about selling on Amazon - stop! Start looking at Amazon as a potential way to grow your sales.

A couple of weeks ago, Janelle Elms and I talked about the Amazon FBA program.

I invite you to find out more about it - the video is now up at the WebSellersCircle.com

To gain access, sign up to the members only area by going to:

Local Meetings

Our eBay meeting this month is on Feb. 11, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am at the Lake Forest Park Center, next to Third Place Books - meeting room off the food court.

This month our topic is cost cutting and money saving tips for our businesses. I'll have some ideas and would like you to bring your tips for steps you are taking in your own business and we'll learn from each other.

Remember to also give some thought to your small goal for the month - and update us on your progress for last month's goal.
